Welcome — let's learn GTM
This is a pretend shop. Every meaningful click (viewing a product, adding to cart, buying) quietly tells the page what happened. Those messages are called events — and they're exactly what Google Tag Manager listens for.
Once you can spot events, you can track anything: sales, sign-ups, button clicks. That's basically the whole job.
What to do in GTM
- 1Open tagmanager.google.com in a new tab and sign in with Google (it's free).
- 2If you don't have one yet, create a container — pick 'Web' and name it after the site.
- 3Top-right, click Preview. A debug window opens that shows events fire in real time.
Pick any product from the grid to fire your first event →
